Brand-Gaus Models 521 and 621 are highly versatile, fully integrated temperature control solutions. They offer autotuning PID control, solid-state output, universal power input, over-temperature protection, fused output, and robust packaging in a compact 19" rackmount enclosure.
Components and packaging have been carefully selected to maximize ease of use and provide a true "plug and play" line of temperature controllers. Using well-heatsinked solid-state relays, these temperature controllers can precisely control and deliver power to heaters rated up to 30A at 100 to 250VAC (7.5 kW) - at ambient temperatures up to 50°C.
Brand-Gaus temperature controllers feature solid-state SCR control, fully automatic tuning of PID parameters, variable time-base proportioned switching (burst-fired) control for fast response and extended heater life, and simultaneous display of process value and setpoint. Optional features include digital communications over RS-232 or RS-485 (standard on Model 621), analog output (0-5V, 0-10V, 1-5V, 4-20mA, 0-20mA), and analog input (Model 521 only).
Brand-Gaus Models 521 and 621 temperature controllers offer truly universal input power and heater output, allowing operation at voltages ranging from 100 to 240VAC and 50 to 60 Hz. They can precisely control up to 30 amps output at the same voltage as the input. Thus, heaters of several voltage ratings can be controlled without configuration changes to controller. For example, the controller can be used for heaters and power systems where one line is neutral and one is between 100 and 240VAC, and for systems utilizing two hot lines (i.e. 208VAC RMS with respect to each other).
These full-featured rackmount temperature controllers provide the ultimate in system protection by incorporating an independent over-temperature protection loop. In addition to the control module that is used to control the amount of power available to the heater, a limit module and limit sensor input serve as a completely independent over-temperature protection loop. If the limit sensor exceeds its user-adjustable alarm setpoint, power to the heater is shut off immediately. The limit sensor temperature is also displayed on the front panel.
Brand-Gaus controllers also provide failed-sensor and open-loop protection to prevent system runaway due to system faults like open sensors, failed relays, or disconnected input sensors.
Brand-Gaus controllers are specifically designed for ease of operation and versatility. They can be installed and fully operational in minutes: simply plug in your heater and sensor, apply AC power, set the over-temperature limit, set the process setpoint, and autotune - that's it!

Model 521 Rackmount Temperature Controller
The Model 521 Rackmount Temperature Controller offers a robust, simple user interface allowing for manual or computer control of setpoint. A profiling option is available allow the 521 to execute ramp and soak profiles. |
Model 621 Profiling Temperature Controller
The Model 621 Profiling Temperature Controller is a full-featured, industrial-grade rackmount temperature controller capable of executing complex ramp and soak profiles (temperature setpoint sequences as a function of time). It is specifically designed to be a user-friendly stand-alone programmable temperature profiler. |
A variety of analog I/O or digital communications options are avaialble for all Brand-Gaus temperature controllers. RS-232 digital communications, RS-485 digital communications, and analog I/O are available as options for the Model 521. The Model 621 comes standard with either RS-232 or RS-485 digital communications. Analog output can be added to the 621 while still having the digital communications fully functional.
Both the Model 521 and the Model 621 temperature controllers use the industry standard MODBUS RTU messaging protocol over either RS-232 or RS-485 interfaces. MODBUS provides a robust communications protocol by incorporating verified message reception and CRC (checksum) error detection. MODBUS is used by several of the most popular industrial PLC's.
Analog input and analog output support all the common industrial DC ranges: 0-5V, 0-10V, 1-5V, 4-20mA, and 0-20mA. These ranges can be mapped to any desired temperatures range, allowing full utilization of the available resolution for reading process values and programming setpoint values.
Universal thermocouple inputs accept both mini and standard sized connectors for most common thermocouple types. Two and three-wire RTD inputs are available as an option.
The standard connectors for AC input and heater output are flanged NEMA L6-30 (250VAC, 30A) twist lock connectors, allowing for a ground wire plus two poles at line voltage. The AC input connector is an inlet (recessed plug), and the heater output is a female receptacle. Other NEMA rated connectors are available.
Both the Model 521 and 621 are EIA 19" standard rackmount units measure 5.25" high x 11" deep (3 rack units high) and weigh 14 lbs. They can be used at full rated current in ambient temperatures up to 50 °C.
